Marcus Turner is an Australian author who spent most of his childhood in Bega, NSW, before moving around between Sydney, Broken Hill, Brisbane, and finally settling in Melbourne in 2005, where he now lives with his wife and two children, his cat Hades and his two dogs, Summer and Lola, in a household that more closely resembles an insane asylum.

First published in November 2018 with his story “A Spark of Youth” being featured in Australian Speculative Fiction‘s Beginnings anthology, Marcus has since been published in several other anthologies, including ASF’s Zodiac series in the Capricorn and Gemini compilations. His debut novella, “Tides of War” – part of Deadset Press’s Drowned Earth series – was released on November 20, 2019.

Marcus primarily writes speculative fiction, horror, grimdark fantasy, cyberpunk, sci-fi and apocalyptic fiction. He cites the work of HP Lovecraft, Clive Barker, Stephen King, Joe Hill, George R.R. Martin and R. Scott Bakker as major inspirations. He is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts at Curtin University, majoring in Professional Writing and Publishing. He moonlights as a Twitch streamer under the name FuryThePhoenix, showcasing his extremely fragile psyche while playing horror games for the whole world to laugh at. He intends to make this an ongoing creative space to share his published work and work-in-progress and talk about the creative process.

In his spare time, Marcus is an avid gamer, metal-head, a voracious reader and horror film aficionado. He may be a little too obsessed with Cthulhu, the Cthulhu Mythos, and all things Lovecraft.
